Hubert Hurkacz is a Polish professional tennis player who is adept at both the singles and the doubles formats of the sport. He had started playing tennis from the age of 5 after first being introduced to the sport by his mother. Both his parents were his initial tennis coaches. He had decided to pursue a career as a professional tennis player after being enthralled by watching the play of Roger Federer on TV.

He had once mentioned in an interview that if not for tennis, he would have pursued a career in professional basketball or motor racing. In his childhood, he used to participate in several sports including gymnastics, basketball, and soccer. Later in life, he had also developed an interest in snooker.

When he had won the Miami Open in April 2021, he had become the first player from Poland to win an ATP Masters 1000 singles title. During the tournament, he had defeated 5 seeded players, and his ATP official singles ranking had improved from 37 to a career-high 16 at the end of the tournament. He had also become the lowest-ranked player to win an ATP Masters 1000 title since Tomáš Berdych‘s win at the Paris Masters in 2005. Tomáš was ranked number 50 in the world at that time.

His semi-final appearance in the singles event at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship was the breakthrough event of his career. Before this, he had never gone past the 3rd round of the singles event at any Grand Slam tournament. He had entered the tournament on the back of a 6-match losing streak but had managed to defeat world number 2, Daniil Medvedev, in the 4th round and 8-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in the quarter-final.

In November 2021, he was ranked #9 in singles in the ATP ranking. With this, he became the highest-ranked Polish man ever in singles in tennis.

In June 2022, he won the Halle Open which was his first title win of 2022 by defeating the world’s #1 Daniil Medvedev.
